In January, the Arizona Department of Health Services issued regulations that require providers to use the outdated FDA protocol when providing medication abortion; this requirement blocks the use of newer evidence-based regimens that are as safe and effective but have fewer side effects and a lower cost. The regulations are scheduled to take effect in April.
